The most visually apparent component is the covering material itself. Pool cover fabrics have come a long way and their design are more durable than ever with many colour options to match your pool surroundings. Fabric with heat sealed webbing will be stronger and more lasting than cheaper sewn webbing.

A new, popular alternative to fabric covers are solid slatted covers with polycarbonate, transparent and solar profile options. These attractive covers are made with long horizontal polycarbonate tiles hinged together. They offer extreme impact resistance, enhanced UV protection and is not affected by direct UV light and comes with a warranty. These slatted covers provide an attractive, consistently smooth, solid looking surface without the folds and warps of a fabric cover while still being easy to use and offering a wide assortment of colours for either indoor or outdoor pools.

One of the most common questions that we get asked is whether automatic pool covers will work with non rectangular, unique, irregularly shaped pools.

The good news fortunately is yes! With the many pool cover models and options available, automatic pool covers can usually be customized to fit most pool shapes and sizes.

When it comes to the price of your cover, here’s what you need to know:

  • If you have a basic rectangle shape with an aluminum pool cover lid, you’ll likely have a lower price.
  • However, if your pool has unique features like a beach entry, jumping rocks, or an infinity edge, it will require additional customization, which can result in a higher price.

So, if you want to keep your pool safe and secure with an automatic safety cover, know that there are options for you no matter the shape or design of your pool.

Another item to consider when evaluating the cost of a retractable pool cover are the track option you will be using. There are essentially 3 different types of pool cover track systems that pull the cover across the pool.

Under Track System

The Under Track System is a great choice if you’re after a sleek look. It’s hidden in the pool wall or mounted on the bottom of the coping, making it almost invisible. This type of track is perfect for rectangular pools and can even be used for freeform pools with a “pool-in-pool” design. However, it can be a bit more expensive to install in freeform pools and costs more than top track systems.

Top Track System

The Top Track System is a good option for freeform pools. It can be installed under an aluminum lid or mounted to the deck surface. The cover then rides over the tracks on wheels.

Recessed Track System

The Recessed Track System or top recessed track sits on the pool deck itself. It sits flush with your pool deck and is embedded in the deck itself.

The track system you will be using should ideally be considered during pool construction. That’s why it’s a good idea to consult with a pool cover specialist like us during the pool building phase to avoid expensive rework or additional customization.

Professional installation is a must to ensure that everything is set up correctly and safely. Working with a licensed electrician will help you determine the best placement for the switch and make sure the electrical configurations are just right. Our professional installers will also give you a better understanding of whether your current setup can support an automatic cover or if you need to make any additional wiring or power source arrangements. In other words, having a qualified professional by your side will give you peace of mind and make sure your automatic safety cover is installed perfectly to provide you with years of dependable service.

Costs for a completely new build vs installing on an existing pool will differ. Due to all these variable we can offer an estimated range of prices. An automatic safety cover can start as low as $10,000 for a small, aftermarket deck install or a basic under track setup for an existing pool with the average for a larger existing pool being $14,000 to $15,000. For a larger pool with more complex custom features, a safety cover can cost upwards of $20,000 with a typical new build being $17,000 to $20,000.
Note: Due to the many variables involved in an auto pool cover as mentioned above, this automatic pool covers cost range is a basic estimate only, exact pricing will vary. It is best to contact your nearest automatic pool installer for an accurate quote for your particular setup.
